Thought on Lunara PTR Patch - April 21 2025

As an avid Lunara player I felt it was my duty to discuss the changes made to Lunara in the most recent PTR patch notes.

It's been a good bit since Lunara was updated, so even if most of the changes are fairly minimal (except level 20), it is still exciting to see.

Level 7 - Splintered Spear

Splintered spear now has stacks. This change is technically a slight buff, but in reality, inconsequential. It just makes it so if only two enemies are available, you don't waste any spears. Now splintered spear will split off to the second enemy on each of your next three attacks.

Note if there are 4 enemies in range, all stacks of splintered spear will still be used. This means that in most situations nothing is different.

Level 13 - Endless Spores

Endless spores now refunds mana. Not super necessary as Lunara is not a super mana hungry hero. But I won't say no to the buff. It will keep Lunara in the fight for just a little bit longer in certain situations.

Level 20

For The Wildlands

An interesting upgrade to thornwood vine. It has many people excited since new abilities like this are almost never added to the game anymore. It looks decent as it allows Lunara to shotgun the entire enemy team with her poison.

There are some caveats though. First, a hero can only be hit by one of the vines (No getting close to smash someone with 5 vines). I think it will be hard to justify this choice against the other level 20 talent in most situations. Often by level 20 more range, vision, and poison stacks for thornwood vine seems like a better choice than an ability that requires you to get close to the enemy team.

Forest's Wrath

Thank goodness this ability is still around. I likely would have considered this patch a nerf if Lunara lost this option.

My guess is that this will likely still be the default for thornwood vines builds. And a useful second option for leaping strike builds.

For leaping strike the extra range and vision radius will be useful. Though I think the shorter cooldown of the other talent will generally be better.

Conclusion

The reality of it is that Lunara really didn't change that much. If this PTR patch goes live it's maybe a 5% buff to Lunara. A few key abilities are marginally buffed, and she has more utility options at level 20.
