I'm On Mastodon!

Just wanted to announce that I'm on Mastodon now! https://mastodon.social/@brighamskarda

Lately I've been feeling the need for a place where I can more easily post random little things to the internet. While this blog is nice, it is rather cumbersome for me to make a post on it. So I've decided to make a Mastodon account. Its free, easy to use, and contains no ads. With mastodon I still feel like I own what I'm putting on the internet, which is really important to me.

Should mastadon.social decide to make changes I don't agree with someday, the distributed nature of the platform means that switching to another mastadon host is super easy.

To be frank the more I learn about the decentralized (yet super connected) fediverse the more I like it. Don't be surprised if someday this blog transfers over to a fediverse provider. (For now I will continue to host through cloudflare though, I really like how easy it is to expand my storage for future file distribution. Though having a managed blog website is convenient, they all charge you through the nose for storage, and often limit the kinds of files you can share.)

To be clear, this blog isn't going anywhere. I will just be using Mastodon for the shorter thoughts I have to share. All posts I make here on the blog will also be linked on Mastodon as well.

Remember when it comes to social media, there is no free lunch. Though Mastodon seems to provide a much brighter future for social media than I previously thought possible.
