A Few Brief Thoughts on Religion
My last few posts have been fairly in depth conversations on things I really like, but I also want this website to be a place where I can post thoughts I have on a more casual basis.
Today's topic is religion. I myself am a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While I would of course recommend everyone align themselves with the church I can't fail to acknowledge the good other religions have brought into the world.
Two things that come to mind are Buddhism's gift to the world of meditation, and the countless hours of service provided by devout Muslims. Religion in general gives people a direction in their lives, even if we don't all serve the exact same God. (It can be detrimental to say we serve the same God just in different forms. Different religions have vastly different Gods, or sometimes an absence of a God.)
As a member of the church of Jesus Christ I have felt God's influence my life. I have felt his immense love for me, and I wish to serve others as Jesus did. And the organization of his church provides me many opportunities to do so.
The Book of Mormon is an amazing sacred work. Read the Book of Mormon and you can know for yourself why so many people have joined the church. It will help you no matter what your declared faith is.
The Book of Mormon is the crux of our faith in the church of Jesus Christ, and there is really no way of disproving the truthfulness of the church that doesn't go around the Book of Mormon. It is hard to believe it was not an inspired work of God, and the only way to know that is to read it.
